Current Semester
Fall 2026

The Fall 2026 Lecturer Writing Group meets Tuesdays from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. in the Center for Writing Excellence, 2nd Floor West, Moody Library.

Participation is available on a first-come, first-served basis. To express interest in participating, email cwe@baylor.edu.

Purpose
The Lecturer Writing Group is designed to help Senior Lecturers establish and maintain a regular writing practice as they work toward promotion to Teaching Professor. The group provides a protected block of time for writing along with the structure and accountability of working alongside colleagues.

The group aims to:

  • Create dedicated, recurring time for professional writing
  • Support progress toward promotion to Teaching Professor
  • Encourage sustainable writing habits and momentum on long-term projects
  • Provide accountability and community among lecturers
  • Connect colleagues across disciplines who are engaged in writing

Who Can Participate?
The Lecturer Writing Group is open to Senior Lecturers from across campus who are interested in working toward promotion to Teaching Professor.

The group is interdisciplinary, and participants may come from any academic discipline or department. No particular type of writing project is required.

Participation is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

What Can I Work On?
Participants bring their own writing projects and use the group's dedicated time to work toward their individual goals. Projects may include:

  • Promotion materials and teaching portfolios
  • Articles, chapters, and other scholarly writing
  • Conference papers and presentations
  • Teaching and pedagogical writing
  • Book-length projects
  • Grant or fellowship proposals
  • Professional or creative writing
  • Other writing related to participants' professional goals

You do not need to be working on a particular type of publication or project to participate. The goal is to use the group's regular writing time to make meaningful progress on the work that matters to you.

What to Expect
Each meeting combines a brief check-in with a longer period of focused, independent writing.

A typical session includes:

  • Brief check-in: Participants identify what they hope to accomplish during the session.

  • Focused writing time: The majority of the meeting is dedicated to quiet, independent work. Participants work on their own projects while writing alongside colleagues.

  • Closing and accountability: Participants briefly reflect on their progress and identify next steps for their writing.

The Lecturer Writing Group is designed primarily as a protected writing space, rather than a workshop or seminar. Participants do not need to prepare a shared reading or writing assignment, and the group does not require everyone to work on the same project.

Group Commitments
To make the writing group useful for everyone, participants are asked to:

  • Attend regularly and prioritize the group's weekly meeting time
  • Arrive prepared to work on a specific writing task or project
  • Keep the opening check-in brief so that the group can transition quickly to writing
  • Protect the group's dedicated quiet writing time
  • Contribute to a supportive and collegial interdisciplinary environment
  • Use the group as an opportunity to build consistent writing habits and accountability

Why Join?
The Lecturer Writing Group offers a regular opportunity to:

  • Protect time for writing amid teaching and service responsibilities
  • Establish a consistent writing routine
  • Make progress on long-term professional projects
  • Stay accountable to your writing goals
  • Write alongside colleagues from across the university
  • Build community around the shared work of writing
  • Move toward your professional and promotion goals

Interested in Participating?
Interested in joining the Lecturer Writing Group? Email cwe@baylor.edu to express your interest. Participation is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
