Presentations and Workshops

The Center for Writing Excellence, including the Division of Undergraduate Writing and the Division of Graduate Writing, offers presentations and workshops that support student writing, the teaching of writing, and faculty research and writing.

Undergraduate Writing Presentations

The DUW offers a range of writing workshops on topics related to writing. In these workshops, one to two DUW representatives come to your class to present on a topic. Some customization of standard workshops can be accommodated. To schedule a writing workshop or presentation for your undergraduate class, please click on this link: Request a Presentation.

Current workshop topics include:

Concise Writing (15 minutes)
Personal Statements (60 minutes)
MLA Citation and Formatting (30 minutes)

Before placing a request, please read our policies:

Advance Notice: To schedule a classroom presentation or workshop, please provide at least one week's notice. This ensures we have the necessary resources available. While we try to accommodate requests with less notice, early planning helps us serve you better.
Workshop Requests: Each instructor may request up to four workshops per semester across all sections (excluding the UWC Intro Presentation). This allows us to offer support to all interested faculty.
Minimum Attendance: To make the most of our time, we require at least five students/attendees for a classroom visit or workshop.
Customized Presentations: If you need a presentation on a specific topic not listed above, please reach out at least two weeks in advance. This gives us ample time to prepare a presentation that meets your needs.
Date Flexibility: While we strive to accommodate your preferred date, we may not always be able to guarantee it. We appreciate your flexibility and will work with you to find the best available option.
Timing: We generally schedule appointments between 9am and 5pm Central Time. However, if we have availability, we do consider requests before 9am or after 5pm. We are not available on weekends or holidays.
Instructor Presence: To ensure a successful session, we ask that an instructor or representative from your organization be present during the presentation or workshop.

Graduate Writing Presentations

The DGW will work with graduate faculty to develop a presentation for a class or departmental event that is tailored to the needs of your graduate students. Session options include a 10-15 minute informational session or a longer, content-oriented presentation on topics such as rhetorical concerns in research writing, research organization skills, concise writing, the writing process, revision strategies, and more. Our director, Dr. Cassady, is also available to teach full class sessions depending on availability.

Please email CWE@baylor.edu to request a presentation. When emailing, include your timeline, desired content type, and any other information that might be helpful. The DGW Director or Graduate Assistant Director will reach out to you directly to confirm details or set a time to further discuss the session. Presentations and Support for Faculty

The Center for Writing Excellence partners with faculty across disciplines to support both teaching writing and faculty research and writing productivity. We offer presentations, workshops, and consultations that are collaborative, developmental, and tailored to the specific needs, constraints, and contexts of your department or group.

Sessions are grounded in writing studies research and informed by the CWE’s work with writers across disciplines and degree levels.

Presentations on Teaching Writing

CWE directors—faculty with expertise in writing pedagogy and rhetoric—are available to attend department meetings, faculty development events, or other gatherings to present or facilitate discussions on writing instruction.

Sessions can be framed as brief overviews, interactive workshops, or extended conversations and are designed collaboratively to align with your teaching goals and student population.

Sample topics include:

AI and writing: navigating policy, pedagogy, and practice
Designing effective writing assignments
Responding to and giving feedback on student writing
In-class and timed writing strategies and approaches
Revision strategies
The writing process and how to teach it
Incorporating in-class or digital peer review
Rhetorical analysis and reading strategies
Primary or secondary research
Designing student research projects
Grammar instruction in context

We also welcome proposals on other topics related to writing instruction.

Presentations on Faculty Research Writing

The CWE also supports faculty in their own scholarly writing. Sessions may be tailored to individual departments or interdisciplinary groups and can address common challenges across academic career stages.

Sample topics include:

Developing productive writing habits and managing writing time
Revision and editing at the manuscript level
Writing for publication: navigating journals, reviews, and revise-and-resubmits
Grant and proposal writing
Writing clearly and concisely for broader, nonspecialist audiences
Getting unstuck: overcoming writing blocks and sustaining momentum
Integrating AI into your scholarly writing

How to Request a Faculty Presentation or Workshop

To request a faculty presentation or workshop, email CWE@baylor.edu with the following information:

Group name (e.g., Department of History, School of Social Work, WISE)
Preferred topic or area of interest
Desired length and format (brief overview, workshop, full session, discussion, Q&A, etc.)
Preferred timeline or date range
Estimated number of attendees
Event location
Any other context that would help us prepare
