As part of Baylor's distinctive Christian mission, the CWE fosters diversity in all of its dimensions, including our hiring practices, tutoring methods, and the design of our space. All Job Descriptions:

Undergraduate Positions

We have two positions for undergraduate students:

  • Undergraduate Writing Consultants (UGCs): These are comprised of undergraduate students from across the disciplines who serve as peer tutors and work one-on-one with writers from a variety of disciplines, levels, and language backgrounds. This position cultivates skills valued by employers and graduate schools (e.g., interpersonal skills, writing skills, leadership skills, ability to take and give feedback). Pay is competitive. Comprehensive training is provided. Students must be willing to work in the Division of Undergraduate Writing (DUW) a minimum of 7 hours per week (maximum 20). Qualities of an effective consultant include: Strong writing and revising skills; Excellent interpersonal communication skills; Openness to feedback and a commitment to reflection and growth; Responsive, attentive to detail, and conscientious. Students from all majors are encouraged to apply! (See below for more information.)
  • Office Assistants (OAs): Office Assistants work at our front desk and are the face of the CWE. They coordinate appointments, manage the CWE space, and facilitate dialogue amongst the staff. We hire OAs on an ongoing basis. When we have a position available, we post it on the Baylor Student Employment page. If you are interested in being on our list of potential OAs when a position does become available, please email us at CWE@baylor.edu, and we will add you to our list.

Graduate Consultant Positions

Division of Graduate Writing

The Division of Graduate Writing employs doctoral students from across the disciplines, with preference given to students with publication experience who are past exams/ABD. With the approval of your GPD, graduate consultants can work 6 to 8 hours with the DGW, or more as long as they do not exceed 28 hours/week of work for Baylor.

As we have a small staff, we have limited position availability and usually put out calls in the spring. If you are interested in working with us, email CWE@baylor.edu for more information about the application process and hiring deadlines. The process involves submitting a CV, writing sample, and letter of recommendation from your advisor or GPD before participating in an interview.

Division of Undergraduate Writing

We employ graduate consultants from across the disciplines to work with both undergraduate and graduate students on their writing. We accept both master's and doctoral students. If you have a 20-hour per week assistantship, you can work up to 8 hours. If you do not have an assistantship, you can work up to 20 hours. Pay is competitive.

Hiring for graduate consultants in the Division of Undergraduate Writing usually happens at the end of the semester for the next academic semester or year. If you are interested in working in the CWE as a graduate consultant, please send us an email at CWE@baylor.edu expressing your interest and qualifications. We will add you to a list to make sure you receive the email when we begin the hiring process.
