DGW Consultations
The Division of Graduate Writing, formerly known as the Graduate Writing Center, is a resource for all Baylor graduate student writers (online and on-campus) who desire to improve their writing skills. Consultants help with writing projects at all stages of the composition process - generating ideas, organizing, and revising - whether students are working on academic papers, reports, personal statements and applications, papers intended for publication, theses and dissertations, or grant proposals.

Appointment Types
The DGW offers three appointment types.
Video Conference
Video conferences are up to one hour long. You must submit your document(s) 24 hours in advance of your appointment time. Consultants will spend up to an hour reviewing your document and preparing feedback. At the time of your appointment, you will meet to discuss that feedback for up to an hour on Zoom (via the link provided in your appointment information on baylor.mywconline.com). Consultants prepare feedback with your meeting in mind; therefore, meetings for video conferences are a required component.
In-person Conference
In-person conferences are up to one hour long. You must submit your document(s) 24 hours in advance of your appointment time. Consultants will spend up to an hour reviewing your document and preparing feedback. At the time of your appointment, you will meet your consultant at the DGW office in the Graduate Research Center. Consultants prepare feedback with your meeting in mind; therefore, meetings for in-person conferences are a required component.
Written Feedback
For written feedback appointments, you will submit your document by the time of the appointment, and your consultant will spend up to 45 minutes reviewing your document and then summarize their feedback. There is no meeting component to written feedback appointments. Due to the nature of written feedback, you can expect feedback on a maximum of 6 to 8 pages of work. For longer pieces, we recommend video or in-person appointments.
How do I know which type of session to pick?
In-person and video conference sessions offer unique advantages over written feedback in terms of the development of writing and communication skills, real-time interaction, collaboration, immediate feedback, and personalized guidance. They also allow the writer to ask questions, get help on specific writing needs, and practice applying the strategies to their writing in the presence of a consultant. In these ways, they are preferable over written feedback. However, we understand that meetings are difficult for some graduate writers and faculty to work into their schedules.
